Is there any good EVERYDAY riding music out there?

Postby wranglerCJ » Fri Aug 14, 2009 9:34 am

Just wondering if anyone knew if there was any sort of music made for everyday riding?

I have a dressage warmblood, BUT I also start out young western horses for ranchwork. My arena work is getting a little dull, especially as summer is coming to a close and I'll be stuck in an arena ALL winter. It tends to get a bit boring, but I LOVE riding with music. The radio is just a pain because music the music doesn't always fit, plus all those commercials break my groove!!

I need to have fun and help find some rhythm and relaxation on those young horses!! HELP!

Make your own CD's or cassettes of music you like. I have 30 or 40 cassettes I use. My favorites are Mancini, Montovani, anything by 101 Strings, music themes from movies, instrumental versions of Beatles songs, TV themes, sci fi movie themes, Disney movie music, basically anything I like. My music copying machine is about 20 years old, and can do CD to casette, has 2 cassette decks for cassette to cassette, but can't record to CD. One of these days I will get another unit, but for now this one does what I need. The advantage of making your own "music to ride to" is that you can do a mix of a lot of different things on one CD or cassette, so if you don't like the one currently playing for the horse you are riding, within 5 minutes something different will come up. Or make a cassette/CD for each horse. This is also a great way to find great music for eventual Musical Freestyles.

everyday riding music

Postby Heit » Mon Aug 17, 2009 10:13 pm

I just received my cds from a series called Riding with Soul... from Ruth Hogan Poulson. I got Latin and Up beat orchestral... they are a great grouping of music for everyday riding, and there is a voice over that helps you find the down beat for each song... great help for me... i needed an energy boost with my warmblood cross with out going crazy!!

I have a really cheap MP3 clip on player - like an ipod shuffle. I just stuck lots of random tracks on it - "Stop the Cavalry", "I Love to Boogie", some brass bands, some spanish music, and see what feels good to ride to. The in a schooling session, I walk, trot, canter according to the music. Makes life a lot more fun.
