Shoot to Win Photo Contest at World Cup

Postby SierraBravo » Wed Feb 25, 2009 12:16 pm

Offield Farms is sponsoring a "shoot to win" contest that they have had at the previous World Cup competitions, open to pros and ammies alike.

I'd like to participate. My question is, and maybe Mary Cornelius or Terri Miller or one of our other resident photogs who have attended WC can answer...am I going to run into trouble bringing my gear inside? Keep in mind this is my first WC, but I thought the last time it was in Vegas the tickets said no cameras allowed. I can't exactly sneak my gear in, it's a bit too large. Is there some sort of pass that needs to be obtained? I'm going to watch first and foremost, but would love to play around if I had the opportunity.

Thanks.....

Anyone? I emailed Offield Farms (because the press release said to do so with questions) and as I expected, no response. I got my tickets yesterday and it clearly said on the back "no cameras or video cameras". So, how are we to participate in this contest? I'm NOT taking a chance on hauling my huge Canon with 80-200mm lens in the building if it's gonna get taken at the turnstiles. So how does this contest work???

Hmm... I never heard about the other 2 contests. But I've taken my camera to both of those and had no problems. However, video cameras WERE an issue. One gal actually had her tapes confiscated.

onetempies, thanks. I never got a reply from Offield Farms re: the contest, so I may just forget it. My camera and the BIIIIG lens I'd be taking in are worth more than my car....so...unless I can get a definitive answer I'm just not going to risk it. I know the "big guns" have press passes so they have no issues.

Personally, you are perfectly welcome to bring plenty of camera gear, as long as absolutely none of it has a flash capability!!!! The flashes all over the place were just obnoxious and rude. If you don't know how to turn the flash function off then you should be quietly taken out and flashed right in the face until your eyeballs bleed.
Grrr..... rant over.

Oh no, did they change the rule to "no cameras" because of all the idiots last time that didn't heed the "no flash" rule. That would really suck for the rest of us that followed the rules and got awesome pics.

They had the same limitation on cameras on the back of the ticket in '07. I didn't bring mine since I didn't want to have to walk all the way back to hotel BUT no one ever checked and there were tons of people that brought cameras, so I would say go for it! Even if they do check, it's always pretty easy to put it at the bottom of your purse and smuggle it in!

Um, have you ever seen a Canon 80-200m lens? That would be one huge purse! Weighs a ton, too.
