Personal Information
Collected
Generally, personal information is not collected from
visitors to The UDBB website. However, in order to participate in the
discussion forums some personal information is requested or obtained;
those cases are described in more detail below.
- Identification
The UDBB requires that visitors to the site who wish to participate
in the forum discussions must provide a valid e-mail address
for identification purposes. Your user password will be mailed to
this email upon completion of registration. Visitors have the sole
ability to hide or display their email to the public (see below).
The use of emails that are freely available on the internet (ie "free" email)
is not allowed. This allows us to protect our community from abusive
postings and provides a verifiable point of contact should legal
questions arise.
- Location & Time
Participation on the UDBB is monitored by recording the date & time
of the visitor's post and the IP address (location on the internet)
from which the post was made. While the date & time are publicly
visible the IP address is logged but only visible to the Site Administrator
through password protection.
Should the Site Administrator find it necessary in accordance
with The UDBB's Rules & Policies to
ban a visitor, this information will be necessary to do so. If a visitor
persists on violating the guidelines (including attempts to post under
a new username) these activities will lead to us reporting the visitor's
activities to their system administrator - whether this be their ISP
or their Employer. The UDBB also reserves the right to reveal a visitor's
IP address (or whatever information we know about the visitor) in the
event of a complaint or legal action arising from any message posted
by the offending visitor.
Optional Personal Information Collected
Also in the UDBB registration, you have the option of
providing some additional information such as occupation, interests,
and homepage URL in your user profile.
This information is made available to other bulletin board users to
foster a sense of community. If you have any concerns about providing
this information, simply leave the fields blank and your registration
will still be processed provided you have a valid email account. The
less "personal" information you provide the more privacy
you can expect to have online.
Certain activities on The UDBB involve the use of "cookies" to
facilitate your experience. This includes retention of your username
and password showing
a default Topic View when you visit the forums. You must have cookies
enabled in order for this site to function as designed.
Disclosure of Personal Information
The UDBB does not disclose personally identifying information
collected online to any third parties. All reasonable care is taken
by staff handling personal information to ensure its security.
It is also important to be aware that when you voluntarily
provide personal information (e.g., last name, address, phone number,
email) in a posting on the UDBB, that information is publicly available
and may be used by someone in a manner unintended by you. For that
reason, we discourage the offering of any personally identifying information
within the message board itself.
Privacy for Children Aged 12
and Under
Although The UDBB is targeted at a general adult audience,
we welcome the participation of younger users with their parents consent.
We strongly recommend that users 12 and under refrain from offering
any personal information either in their user profile or in the message
boards themselves, and we encourage parents to stay involved in the
online life of their children.
Please view a copy of the parental permission form. Prior
to a childs registration on the bulletin board, this form must
be signed by the childs parent or legal guardian and faxed to
The UDBB or mailed to the site operator listed below.
The UDBB is prohibited from conditioning a childs
participation in an activity on the childs disclosing more personal
information than is reasonably necessary to participate in such activity.
Parents can review and request deletion of their
childs personal information, and can refuse to permit further
collection or use of their childs information. In order to
request such a review, to revoke previously offered parental consent,
or to express any concerns regarding a childs privacy on our
website, please send a signed written request to the site operator
listed below.
